Evos Rotterdam is expanding its Europoort terminal, adding five storage tanks totalling 67,500 cubic metres (m³) for (bio)methanol and (bio)ethanol to its existing 21 tanks of around 260,000 m³.

An additional inland shipping berth, to be built by the Port of Rotterdam Authority and equipped with shore power, is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028 to support increased transhipment and terminal capacity.
The expansion is intended to meet rising demand for storage and bunkering of (bio)methanol, strengthening Rotterdam’s position as a hub for methanol and ethanol in the chemical industry and maritime fuel sector.
In 2025, bunkering of bio-methanol in the port rose from 3,900 to nearly 12,000 tonnes, reflecting growing adoption of sustainable fuels.
Both Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, and Daan Vos, CEO of Evos, signed the agreement to advance the project, which underlines the port’s role in Europe’s transition to cleaner energy and sustainable shipping fuels.
In February, the Port of Rotterdam Authority and VOTOB signed a cooperation agreement at the World Port Center to expand a task force combating storage spoofing.
