The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) has confirmed that the Port of Dover has secured its fourth EcoPorts PERS certification.

Port of Dover secures EcoPorts PERS recertification

The UK port has been part of the EcoPorts network since 2003. PERS remains the only port-specific environmental management standard, with compliance independently assessed and renewed every two years to ensure continuous alignment with environmental requirements.

The EcoPorts network now includes 87 ports across 25 countries, with 28 ports currently holding PERS certification.

For port stakeholders, the recertification highlights Dover’s continued focus on sustainability and environmental performance, particularly as it handles a significant share of UK-EU trade flows.

Isabelle Ryckbost, Secretary General of ESPO, said: “Port of Dover is a longstanding member of the EcoPorts network. With one third of all UK-EU trade passing the port, it is very positive to see Dover’s engagement towards net-zero and towards sustainability. We are proud of having this port in the network and applaud their -re-certification”

Tim Verhoeven, Senior Policy Advisor and EcoPorts Coordinator at ESPO, added: “We are pleased to learn that the Port of Dover has been recertified with the EcoPorts PERS certification. The port has set truly impressive environmental ambitions, particularly the zero-carbon commitments by 2030. Dover’s leadership sets an inspiring example for all other ports across Europe and beyond.”

In November 2025, Shoreham Port won the ESPO Award 2025 for its strong commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment for women.
